최근 인류의 삶의 질 증가와 더불어 플라스틱을 비롯한 각종 폐기물의 발생이 급증하고 있으며, 이에 따라 친환경적이고 지속가능한 폐기물 처리가 중대한 관심사로 주목받고 있습니다.

폐기물로부터 고부가가치의 화학물질을 회수하는 기술은 자원순환, 탄소중립 달성의 측면에서 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대됩니다. 특히 플라스틱 폐기물 발생량의 증가로 해양에서의 미세플라스틱 등 심각한 글로벌 환경 문제가 대두되고 있습니다. 플라스틱은 석유를 원료로 하는 만큼, 물리적 재활용을 넘어 플라스틱에서 관련 성분을 추출하는 화학적 방법으로 플라스틱 폐기물의 재활용이 가능하다고 할 수 있습니다.

이에 본 연구실에서는 난분해성플라스틱, 생분해성플라스틱 등 다양한 플라스틱 폐기물로부터 모노머 등 기존 원유기반 화학물질을 대체 가능한, 고부가 화학물질을 생산하는 기술 개발에 대한 연구를 수행하고 있습니다.

Along with the recent increase in human quality of life, the generation of various wastes, including plastic, is rapidly increasing, and the development of eco-friendly and sustainable waste disposal is drawing attention as a major concern.

The technology for recovering high value-added chemicals from waste is expected to play a big role in terms of resource circulation and achieving carbon neutrality. In particular, the increase in the amount of plastic waste has raised serious global environmental problems such as microplastics in the ocean. As plastic is made of petroleum, it can be said that plastic waste can be recycled by chemical methods of extracting related ingredients from plastic beyond physical recycling.

Therefore, this laboratory is conducting research on the development of a technology to produce high-value chemicals that can replace existing crude oil-based chemicals such as monomers from various plastic wastes, including non-degradable plastics and biodegradable plastics.
